Dove Hunter’s “Leaving The House” Checklist

There may be no worse feeling than prepping all week for an exciting dove hunting trip out into the woods, waking up early, packing, driving and then hiking for miles out in to the brush only to discover that essential piece of gear or equipment has stayed at home. As with any hobby or interest requiring gear and preparation, these sorts of headaches can be alleviated by making and following detailed lists of the equipment required to enjoy a beautiful day in the woods.

Dove hunters expecting to spend a day in the woods would be wise to consider their clothing and equipment carefully. Good boots or walking shoes, long pants and top made from weather-appropriate materials, a raincoat or poncho and backpack are all good ideas. Carrying insect repellent can make all the difference between a great day and a horrible one. Being sure to carry adequate supplies of water is important, as staying hydrated while out of doors pursuing potentially vigorous activity all day can dehydrate any hunter. Most important, of course, is carrying lunch and snacks. Dove hunting and hiking can be exhausting activities, and having a healthy meal and frequent snack can keep hunters moving all day long.
